Long Beach History in a Jam

When life handed Marie Barnidge-McIntyre a lemon, she made Lemon-Ginger Jelly. And then the horticulturist at Long Beach’s Rancho Los Cerritos turned to the historic garden’s oranges, plums, feijoas, pomegranates and kumquats-many from trees planted in the 1930s and even earlier (the pomegranate trees date from the 1840s). The result? Feijoa-Nutmeg Jelly, Cinnamon Orange Marmalade, Spiced Plum Jelly and many others, all handmade by Barnidge-McIntyre at a licensed kitchen. Proceeds go to Friends of Rancho Los Cerritos.
