Veteran Educator Chosen as Southwest College President

The Los Angeles Community College District board Thursday named the first permanent president to head Southwest College in more than five years.
Audre Levy, 56, will take over the 6,700-student campus east of Los Angeles International Airport on Aug. 1. Levy, provost of Edison Community College in Naples, Fla., was selected after three searches by the district.
“My job will be to navigate the waters between those happy with having a new leader with a new style and those who aren’t,” Levy said. “Then I have to win everybody over, if possible.”
The move is something of a homecoming for Levy, who earned her doctor of education degree at Pepperdine University. She was an Inglewood Unified School District counselor and administrator from 1975 to 1989, and a counselor, then matriculation coordinator, for the Los Angeles Community College District from 1989 to 1992.
Since then, in addition to the Florida post, she has been assistant to the vice president of Dallas Community Colleges and executive vice president of San Jose/Evergreen Community Colleges.
