Programs and Tours Slated for Saturday

The Crystal Cove Conservancy will host an educational program about tide pools and underwater habitat, sell art, raffle prizes and offer tours of a historic cottage at the state park Saturday.
Several officials and environmentalists, including philanthropist Joan Irvine Smith, will speak at 12:30 p.m. Funds raised at the event will be used for education programs and cottage restoration.
The historic district is the last intact example of a Southern California beach colony, with some cottages dating to the 1920s. It was to have been converted to a $35-million resort, but activists stepped in and persuaded the state to buy out the developer and plan a public use for the cottages.
