Estrada’s Plunder Trial Is Delayed Indefinitely
- Share via
An anti-graft court indefinitely postponed the trial of former President Joseph Estrada, who faces a capital charge of economic plunder.
Estrada is accused of amassing $78 million in payoffs from illegal gambling operators and kickbacks from tobacco taxes and questionable government investments during his 31 months in office.
He was ousted in January after massive anti-corruption protests.
The court said it canceled the trial, set for Monday, because of a pending motion challenging the constitutionality of the plunder law. Estrada has denied wrongdoing.
