Separate Shootouts Kill 13 in Kashmir Region

Thirteen people were killed in separate shootouts in India’s troubled Kashmir region where rebel violence has flared after U.S. strikes on Afghanistan, police said.
Indian paramilitary soldiers shot dead three militants in a gun battle in the Budgam district, nine miles west of Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir state.
Earlier, unidentified militants shot dead two civilians including a village chief in Kupwara district north of Srinagar, police said.
Other separate shootouts in the Himalayan region killed five militants, a cable operator and two Indian security force personnel.
