Re “National ID Card System Failing to Attract Supporters,” Oct. 24: If they made national ID cards voluntary I would be among the first to sign up, that is, if it would be foolproof. After a quick computer check, I could be on my way to board my plane or to conduct whatever kind of business that required a closer scrutiny than normal. Those people who don’t wish to be in the computer could simply go to a separate, probably longer, line and wait to be checked out by the old-fashioned, human-type of scrutiny.
I can’t imagine that anyone who didn’t have anything to hide wouldn’t welcome this method of expediting his or her travels.
