College basketball coaches are traveling to California this month to evaluate high school prospects, but it’s not the senior class or big men gaining the most interest.
California is home to five outstanding junior point guards in boys’ basketball--Khalif Ford of Diamond Bar, Ray Reed of Inglewood, Ayinde Ubaka of Oakland, Shaun Davis of San Diego Lincoln and Marcus Williams of Los Angeles Crenshaw. All are expected to land NCAA Division I scholarships ....

In girls’ basketball, the No. 1 senior prospect in Southern California is 6 feet 4 Tye’sha Fluker of Pasadena Muir. She has committed to Tennessee Also being heavily recruited is point guard Alexis Kendrick of Play del Rey St. Bernard. Connecticut, Georgia and UCLA are pursuing Kendrick....
First-year Arizona baseball Coach Andy Lopez is making a big recruiting push for outfielder Brad Boyer of Camarillo Left-handed pitcher Brandon Averill of Villa Park is visiting UCLA this weekend, but Arizona State remains the favorite to sign him....
Two-time All-City infielder Ryan Braun of Granada Hills has recruiting trips scheduled for California, Georgia Tech, Miami and Stanford.... Newhall Hart first baseman John Curtis is visiting Cal State Fullerton this weekend.
