The bodies of 13 people who police suspect were Africans trying to illegally enter Europe washed up on Spain’s southern coast.
Five were women, and two or three may have been pregnant, said police in Tarifa, a popular entry point for illegal immigrants.
A police helicopter patrolling the strait between Spain and Morocco had spotted people in a boat earlier. Police said the skipper may have been a smuggler who forced his charges into the water and fled.
