Re “Simon Firm Must Pay $78 Million, Jury Rules,” Aug. 1: I am a registered Democrat; so are all my friends, and every one of us would vote for Richard Riordan if we could. On the other hand, the Republicans do not have a viable candidate. We all need Riordan ... Independent? Write-in?

Is it too late to get the former L.A. mayor on the ballot for governor? If so, I believe a write-in campaign should begin. Now we have two impossible choices. We deserve better. The only bright spot is that Gov. Gray Davis will be termed-out four years from now.
