Irvine Concert Melee Is Investigated

Irvine police began an investigation Monday into the violence that forced an early end to Sunday’s Summer Jam 2002 concert at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.
Authorities made 30 arrests, and three people were reported injured. Police said security officials for the event “lost control of the stage” as people dressed in gang attire attacked people with pieces of pipe.
