Former AYSO Official to Serve 9 Months in Jail

A former youth-soccer official who missed a deadline to repay $70,000 he embezzled from two soccer organizations was sentenced to nine months in jail.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Martin G. Engquist ordered Gary Nakano, 48, to start serving jail time March 1. Nakano also must pay a $200 fine and serve five years’ probation after his jail term ends.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Doug Brannan said he expects Nakano to ask to serve his term at home.
