Sheriff’s investigators in Kern County say they have a suspect in a 13-year-old murder case.
Officials using DNA tests arrested Adam Guerrero, 37, on Monday in connection with the slaying of Amado Carreno, whose body was found in Kern River Canyon on Feb. 3, 1989. Investigators said Carreno, 23, was stabbed to death.
Guerrero was a suspect during the initial investigation after blood was found on his coat. But tests used in the late 1980s could determine only blood type, not origin, Sgt. Glenn Johnson said.
Carreno was Guerrero’s sister’s boyfriend at the time of his death, Johnson said.
