Tree Disease Now in 12 California Counties

Sudden oak death, a disease that has attacked trees and shrubs on the central and northern coasts, has been confirmed in Humboldt and Contra Costa counties.
That brings to 12 the number of counties in which the disease has been detected, extending from Humboldt south to Monterey.
The fungus-like organism has killed thousands of oaks along the coast and infected different types of forest shrubs, including manzanita and rhododendron.
There is no known cure.
