Colombian and U.S. authorities said they arrested 49 people in four countries, including 12 in the United States, smashing an international ring that smuggled $8.1 million worth of cocaine and heroin into the United States and Europe every month.
The ring, which operated from the northwestern Colombian city of Medellin, sent 440 pounds of cocaine and 22 pounds of heroin per month to the United States and Europe, said Leo Arreguin, chief of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s office in Colombia.
Arrests were also made in Colombia, Panama and Spain.
