20 Drivers Cited in Pedestrian Safety Check

Twenty drivers were issued citations at the same Oxnard intersection this week for failure to yield during a safety check conducted by local police.
An undercover police sergeant in civilian clothes spent several hours Wednesday morning walking across Pleasant Valley Road at Perkins Road in a marked crosswalk.
During the operation, the second of its kind in recent weeks, patrol officers who were parked nearby cited drivers who failed to stop for the sergeant, officials said. A driver who had yielded was rear-ended by another driver who was not paying attention, officials said. No one was injured.
Police said they will conduct similar operations in the hope of increasing pedestrian safety.
