District Will Bleach Offshore Waste Water
- Share via
A plan to bleach the 243 million gallons of partially treated sewage that the Orange County Sanitation District pipes four miles offshore daily was approved Wednesday by the agency’s directors.
By using a bleach three times stronger than the household variety, the district expects to remove more than 99% of bacteria and pathogens in the waste water.
District staff decided to bleach the waste water after learning that it was traveling toward the shore, coming within half a mile of Newport Beach’s coastline.
