Iraqi U.N. Ambassador Arrives From New York

Iraqi U.N. Ambassador Mohammed Douri arrived in Syria from New York, witnesses said. Douri, the first Iraqi official to concede that the government of President Saddam Hussein was defeated, had said he was leaving the U.S. because he did not want to represent his country under a U.S.-British occupation.
Diplomats said Douri had not handed in his credentials and that Iraq’s mission to the U.N. would stay open and be run by his deputy for the time being.
