Robert F. Blumofe, 94; Film Executive Started Out on the Legal Staff

Robert F. Blumofe, 94, a longtime Hollywood executive who produced films including “Yours, Mine and Ours,” “Pieces of Dreams” and Academy Award best-picture nominee “Bound for Glory,” died July 22 in Los Angeles. The cause of death was not announced.

A native New Yorker, Blumofe graduated from Columbia University and also earned his law degree there. He joined Paramount Pictures’ legal staff in New York City following graduation and later transferred to the Hollywood studio.

He switched to the production side of filmmaking in 1952, when he helped organize television film production at Revue Productions (now Universal Television). He joined United Artists the next year and for 13 years was UA’s vice president in charge of production and West Coast operations.

In 1966, he left UA to enter the independent film production field. In 1977, he was named director of the American Film Institute’s West Coast operations and held that post until 1981.

For more than two decades, Blumofe was an active member of the board of trustees of the Motion Picture & Television Fund in Woodland Hills. He served as vice chairman of the fund’s board and helped lead a $50-million capital campaign.
