Re “Scuffle Raises Questions” (July 31), about two councilmen who serve as reserve police officers: Although our L.A. city government is big, I think of it as a single entity. I am bothered by the suggestion that there can be a “conflict of interest” between the government and the people who have ultimate responsibility for it. Logically, their interests should always be the same.
Rather than prohibit council members from serving as police reservists, how about requiring council members to do so? Maybe then we would see less conflict and a more effective understanding of community law enforcement issues.
