PARIS — French stars turned out in force Wednesday to pay emotional tribute to French actress Marie Trintignant, who died last week after sustaining severe head injuries in a domestic drama that shocked France. She was 41.
Trintignant was buried at the French capital’s Pere Lachaise cemetery, resting place of Irish writer Oscar Wilde and American rocker Jim Morrison.
“Don’t cry for the woman you have lost, rejoice in the fact that you knew her,” her father, actor Jean-Louis Trintignant, said in a tribute as he fought back tears.
Her interment followed a ceremony attended by her family and friends, including screen star Catherine Deneuve, former Prime Minister Lionel Jospin and director Claude Lelouch.
The actress slipped into an irreversible coma on July 27 after an incident at her hotel in Lithuania, where she was shooting a film. Her boyfriend, singer Bertrand Cantat of the rock band Noir Desir, is in custody in Lithuania.
