Don Bacigalupi has resigned as executive director of the San Diego Museum of Art to accept a position as director of the Toledo Museum of Art in Ohio. A successor has not been named.
Bacigalupi, who took over the San Diego museum in 1999 from Steven Brezzo, oversaw extensive renovations and restoration work on the museum’s campus and organized major exhibitions, including “Axis Mexico,” “Idol of the Moderns: Pierre-Auguste Renoir and American Painting” and an international tour of the exhibition “Power and Desire: South Asian Paintings from the Edwin Binney 3rd Collection.”
Bacigalupi will leave San Diego in mid-October and begin his new job in November.
