From Times Wire Reports
Rebel leaders and government ministers were gearing up to resume peace talks in a bid to end seven years of civil war. The conflict has killed more than 7,000 people in the Himalayan kingdom.
Negotiations were set to start today in a heavily guarded hotel at Nepalganj, a border town about 250 miles west of the capital, Katmandu.
The rebels, who say they are inspired by Chinese revolutionary leader Mao Tse-tung, began fighting in 1996 to abolish Nepal’s constitutional monarchy and set up a socialist state.
