A 28-year-old Camarillo man who was found dead on a dirt road in rural Piru early Saturday had been strangled, Ventura County medical examiner’s officials said Sunday.
The body of Jorge Lopez Cervantes was wrapped in a blanket on Holser Road, just off Piru Canyon Road. His family had reported him missing after he failed to return home from a trip to the market Friday night.
Cervantes’ car was found in a shopping center parking lot near his Camarillo home, and authorities were investigating whether he was abducted, killed in another location and then dumped in Piru.
Authorities had no motive or suspects in custody Sunday. They declined to release details about Cervantes’ death, but said the case was being treated as a homicide.
Cervantes, who had a lengthy criminal record, was the county’s 30th homicide victim of the year.
