Effort to Recall 2 Rio Board Members Dies
- Share via
Oxnard residents seeking to recall two members of the Rio Elementary School District board failed to turn in a petition with the required number of signatures before the deadline this week.
A number of parents, angry over the suspension of Supt. Yolanda Benitez and other personnel decisions, served recall papers on trustees Ron Mosqueda and Henrietta Macias in March.
Benitez was later fired for improperly seeking to impose a pro-bilingual education program in the district.
A total of 2,133 valid voter signatures were due to the Ventura County registrar by Tuesday for the recall effort to proceed. But elections chief Bruce Bradley said no petition was filed.
