Newsman Named to LAPD Post

Los Angeles Police Chief William J. Bratton appointed the co-anchor of the ABC News magazine “20/20” on Friday to oversee a new LAPD bureau of homeland security.
John Miller, best known for a 1998 interview of Osama bin Laden, will oversee the new bureau, which will include the anti - terrorism unit and the department’s intelligence functions.
Miller was a deputy police commissioner for public affairs in New York when Bratton was police commissioner there in the 1990s.
Bratton also appointed Gerald Chaleff, a well-known attorney, as special assistant for matters involving the department’s compliance with federal oversight after U.S. Justice Department lawyers found a pattern of civil rights violations.
