Sears Profit Up 72%; Lands’ End Lifts Sales

Sears, Roebuck & Co.’s fourth-quarter profit jumped 72% as purchases of Lands’ End merchandise boosted sales and the largest U.S. department store chain had a gain from the sale of assets.
Net income climbed to $848 million, or $2.67 a share, from $494 million, or $1.52, a year earlier, Sears said. Revenue rose 2.4% to $12.5 billion, though sales at stores open at least a year dropped 7.3%.
Shares of Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based Sears rose $1.83 to $28.53 on the NYSE.
