A woman in the front seat of a car was killed Saturday night when the driver crashed into a guardrail on Interstate 5 in San Clemente.
The victim, identified as Virginia Grant, 19, of Pico Rivera, was in a Saturn traveling south about 75 mph when the crash occurred about 11:30 p.m., officials said. The driver was trying to change lanes when she suddenly braked, losing control of the car, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The car swerved into the far right lane, went down a dirt embankment and onto the El Camino Real onramp, where it struck a guardrail. Grant was pronounced dead at the scene.
The three other people in the car -- unidentified females aged 19, 20 and 22 -- were taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, the CHP said.
