From Times Wire Reports
Liberia’s main rebel group said it was quitting peace talks and accused the top mediator of letting President Charles Taylor renege on a pledge to step down.
Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy demanded that Mohammed ibn Chambas leave the talks, calling him a “spokesman” for Taylor. Chambas is executive secretary of the West African bloc mediating the talks in Ghana.
The rebels claim Chambas waffled on holding Taylor to his promise to cede power under a cease-fire accord.
