A nonprofit foundation has donated $15,000 to the family of an Anaheim police reserve officer killed in the Iraq war.
Marine 1st Sgt. Edward Smith, 39, was killed April 5 while fighting outside Baghdad. He served as first sergeant in the 2nd Tank Battalion, Fox Company, and had planned to retire from a 20-year career in January.
The funds were provided by the Fallen Heroes Last Wish Foundation, which bolsters government benefits to families of fallen service people. Smith is survived by a wife and three children.
