Ugliest Cuts in Fight Come From Readers

I watched the Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitschko heavyweight fiasco on the tube last Saturday, and I’m convinced that Joe Louis could’ve knocked them both out. On the same night.

With his braggadocio character and penchant for showing up out of shape, Lennox Lewis has become nearly as big a jerk as Mike Tyson.
Two weeks before the fight, he stated that Kirk Johnson faked an injury because he heard that Lewis was in fantastic shape. After being beaten on all cards by Klitschko, Lewis stated, “I only had a week to prepare.”
Consider yourself very fortunate, Lennox. If Klitschko had Manny Steward for his trainer, you would have been seeing stars (not the celebrity type at ringside) and never finished the second round.
If he learns to keep his left up, next time you won’t make a good meal for Klitschko, only a snack. Perhaps you better retire before he gets too hungry.

Vitali Klitschko was certainly ahead and put up a valiant fight, but the decision to stop the fight was the correct one. If allowed to continue, he could have suffered irreparable damage, possibly career ending.
Bill Plaschke’s tirade against this decision [“Decision to Stop Fight Leaves an Empty Feeling,” June 22] shows not only his lack of physiological knowledge but also the underlying nationalism of American sports journalists, who cannot accept the fact that a Brit is the heavyweight champion.
