* Mike Dunn was promoted to president of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, overseeing the sale and distribution of films and TV shows on DVD and videocassette. He replaces Patricia Wyatt, who left to form a film production and financing firm. Dunn was executive vice president, sales and marketing.
* Verizon Communications Inc. agreed to pay $5.7 million to the Treasury Department after admitting that it violated a federal ban on marketing long-distance telephone services in nine states before getting FCC approval.
* Gymboree Corp. said fourth-quarter earnings edged higher to $10.63 million, or 35 cents a share, from $10.48 million, or 35 cents, in the year-earlier period. Sales of the Burlingame, Calif.-based retailer rose 2.2% to $154 million.
* U.S. commercial banks and thrifts earned a record $105.4 billion in 2002, up more than 20% from $87.3 billion in 2001, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. said.
