George Washington: A National Treasure: The famed “Lansdowne” portrait of George Washington, which made its Los Angeles debut in November as part of the exhibition, moves from its temporary home at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art after Sunday. The 1796 painting by Gilbert Stuart, which usually hangs in the Smithsonian, is on its first tour, having been rescued from the auction block two years ago. A Las Vegas foundation came up with the $20-million purchase price and plans to return it to the Smithsonian after this tour for permanent display.
