MTA Not Faring Well

Re “MTA Considers 2 Plans for Overhaul of Fare Structure,” March 4: Isn’t it ironic that the MTA is attempting to comply with a federal mandate to make buses more accessible to minority and poor riders by raising the cost of popular bus passes and eliminating the transfer and discount token programs? Adding insult to injury, the MTA scheduled the public board meeting on the matter for 1 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, when most people who utilize the bus and rail systems would be at work. If this is the MTA’s idea of fixing public transit in this city, it isn’t a very smart way of doing it.
