UCSB’s Fullove Leads Big West Honor Roll

UC Santa Barbara junior guard Branduinn Fullove was chosen Big West Conference player of the year, the third Gaucho so honored.
Fullove, who attended Simi Valley High, averaged 15.3 points and 3.8 rebounds in leading Santa Barbara to its first outright Big West regular-season title. Brian Shaw and Lucius Davis are the other Santa Barbara players to win the award.
UC Irvine senior forward Jordan Harris was named to the All-Big West first team along with Cal State Fullerton sophomore forward Ralphy Holmes, Santa Barbara senior forward Mark Hull, Utah State senior forward Desmond Penigar and Cal Poly junior center Varnie Dennis.
Santa Barbara’s Bob Williams was named coach of the year for the second time.
UC Riverside forward Nate Carter was selected as the conference’s top freshman after finishing third in the conference in scoring at 16.4 points a game.

Stanford Coach Mike Montgomery has been suspended for one game after making contact with a game official during a game Feb. 27 against Arizona State.
Montgomery will sit out Stanford’s first conference home game next season, Jan. 2 against Washington State, and he was put on probation through the conclusion of next season.

Tennessee guard Jon Higgins was ruled academically ineligible for postseason play when his appeal to the Southeastern Conference was turned down. A senior math major, Higgins was ruled ineligible for the postseason for failing to pass at least six hours in the fall.
