Lawmen Lied to Protect Selves, Prosecutor Says
- Share via
Eleven Miami police officers schemed to plant guns on unarmed suspects who had been shot and then lied under oath to protect each other, a prosecutor charged in closing arguments of their federal conspiracy trial.
Defense lawyers said that there was no proof and that prosecutors relied on testimony of two officers who made plea deals. If convicted, the defendants could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
Only one of the officers has been tied to all four shootings, which left three men dead and a fourth wounded, and prompted community outrage.
