In praise of the immortal tenor

Re “Grazie, Signore Pavarotti” (March 13): OK, he is older than his years would indicate, fat, in ill health, self-absorbed, can’t hit the high notes and has overall abused his body. So what? He is an icon! He gave 10,000 or so the thrill of a lifetime ... and if not 10,000, at least three people I know.

His exuberance for the crowd was as real as it gets. We were there. We could have been at an Eminem concert, listening to the “great white hope” slam everyone and everything. But we chose to be in the presence of greatness and civility. Silly us!
