Lawmaker Recalled -- to Active Duty

Rep. Stephen E. Buyer (R-Ind.) delivered a letter to House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) requesting an indefinite leave because his Army Reserve unit was called to active duty. Colleagues broke into applause after his request was granted
Buyer, a lawyer and a Reserve lieutenant colonel, will serve as an operational law judge advocate in a forward-deployed unit, according to his office. He had a similar role in the Persian Gulf War, providing legal advice to combat support units and to a prisoner of war camp.
