Not much use for living rooms

Lew Sichelman suggests the living room has outlived its usefulness in “Is Living Room on Last Legs?” (March 16). He is correct, and builders are downsizing them regularly.
Historically the “parlor” had only two primary functions: to receive the minister when calling and to receive proposals of marriage to the family daughters. Culturally, the “parlor” is dead.
