‘Producers’ try San Francisco

Jason Alexander and Martin Short, stars of the Los Angeles production of “The Producers,” will try out their act at San Francisco’s Orpheum Theatre for a week of sold-out performances before coming to the Pantages Theatre.

The pair will replace Lewis J. Stadlen and Don Stephenson April 21-26 before beginning preview performances at the Pantages May 2; the show opens May 29. A spokesman for the show says that having the new actors take over the roles before the move is standard for large productions scheduled for long runs in major cities.
