Stolen Impala Hits Deer in Road; Driver Is Killed

A suspected car thief on a joy ride was killed when he crashed into a deer and slammed into an embankment on the Eastern tollway, police said Wednesday.
David Francis, 19, of Lake Forest died at the scene of the 10 a.m. accident near Santiago Canyon Road.
Police said they tracked Francis by a signal transmitted from the Lo-Jack system in the stolen 2002 Chevy Impala. Francis was suspected of stealing four cars in two days. The deer also was killed.
