Railbird Center of Attention

In a small field that included no other graded stakes winners, Buffythecenterfold figured to win the $107,200 Railbird on Sunday at Hollywood Park and she did so in workmanlike fashion.
With her namesake, former Playboy centerfold Buffy Tyler, in attendance, the 3-year-old Capote filly tracked the pacesetters Honest Answer and Himalayan for most of the trip, then rallied on the outside into the stretch and went on to a one-length win. She completed the seven furlongs in 1:22.54 under jockey Victor Espinoza, who leads the standings after the first two weeks of the meet with 15 victories.
Buffythecenterfold, who raced coupled with third-place finisher Dash For Money at odds of 2-5, won for the fifth time in eight starts. She has won all three of her races at Hollywood Park.
Honest Answer, the second longest shot in the field at 9-1, was two lengths clear of Dash For Money, then came Himalayan, Hostility and 7-2 second choice Lucky Sabre.
Trainer Mel Stute indicated Buffythecenterfold, owned by Allen Brian and Frank Stronach, will be pointed toward the $200,000 Hollywood Breeders’ Cup Oaks June 14. That race is at 1 1/16 miles and she hasn’t won beyond seven furlongs. She was second to the now-retired Composure in last year’s Oak Leaf at Santa Anita, then was seventh of 10 in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies three weeks later.
