Guard Gets Life for Slaying Former 1st Lady

A security guard convicted in the slaying of South Africa’s former first lady Marike De Klerk was sentenced to life in prison. Luyanda Mboniswa, 22, stood motionless as he received his sentence for murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances. Judge John Hlophe sentenced Mboniswa to life on each charge and to three years for burglary.
Mboniswa, who had worked as a guard in de Klerk’s luxury apartment complex, was convicted of breaking into her home on Dec. 2, 2001, and robbing and killing her.
