Vanished Aide Died Years Ago, Report Says

An aide to North Korean leader Kim Jong Il reported to have defected to the United States died three years ago, said the South Korean newspaper JoongAng Ilbo. The paper said that a report by the semi-official Yonhap news agency that Gil Jae Kyong was seeking U.S. asylum was false and that Gil had died at age 66. Gil was reported to be involved in alleged drug trafficking and counterfeiting for the North Korean leadership.
