The remains of 45 Iranian and 83 Iraqi soldiers from the eight-year war between those two countries have been returned to their respective homelands, Iran’s official news agency said. It was the first such exchange since this year’s U.S.-led war against Iraq.
The International Committee of the Red Cross office in the southern Iraqi city of Basra arranged the exchange, the Islamic Republic News Agency said.
Iran has said that about 4,000 Iranian prisoners remain unaccounted for from the 1980-1988 war.
