Prosecutor Concludes Case Against Ex-Officers

A group of former Oakland police officers known as the Riders took the easy way out when they mistreated and falsely accused suspects, then concocted reports to cover their tracks, prosecutor David Hollister said Monday during his closing argument.
Three now-fired officers are on trial: Clarence “Chuck” Mabanag, 37; Jude Siapno, 34; and Matthew Hornung, 31. They face counts of kidnapping, assault, false arrest and filing false reports. A fourth former officer, Frank Vazquez, is believed to have fled to Mexico.
