The Orange County Sheriff’s Department on Monday released the name of a man shot and killed by an Anaheim police detective last week.
He was identified as Justin Shane Hertl, 23, of Yorba Linda.
According to authorities, the shooting occurred about 10 a.m. Friday during a criminal investigation in the 6600 block of Palma Circle in an unincorporated county area near Yorba Linda.
No other details -- including the name of the officer or the nature of the investigation -- were provided by Sgt. Rick Martinez, a spokesman for the Anaheim Police Department, nor Jim Amormino, speaking for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, which initially investigated the incident. The shooting is being investigated by the Orange County district attorney’s office, both men said, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
