Rebels Vow ‘Realistic’ Power-Sharing Proposal

Responding to U.S. concerns, a Tamil Tiger leader said his rebel group would make “realistic” power-sharing proposals to the government.
“We would make a fervent request to the United States to ... understand that we are committed to peace and the proposals are definitely realistic,” said S.P. Thamilselvan, head of the rebels’ political wing.
Last week, the U.S. urged the rebels to resume peace talks and make reasonable demands. It also voiced concern about political assassinations. Thamilselvan denied his group was involved.
