Donors Pledge More Funds, Official Says

Afghan Finance Minister Ashraf Ghani said officials who gathered at this weekend’s International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings in the United Arab Emirates had agreed to give his impoverished country more aid.
“We received very strong expressions of support to stay engaged,” said Ghani, who said he warned prospective donors that they would have to spend more to fight terrorism and drugs if they did not back his country.
U.S. Treasury Secretary John W. Snow said chances were “pretty good” that other nations would match a U.S. contribution of $1.2 billion in new Afghan aid.
