I have to disagree with “Dog IQ: the Sound and the Furry,” Commentary, June 15: The Australian sheep dog Megan that we just lost not only understood dog words like, “sit,” “stay,” “down” and “come,” but when I told her to get a ball she brought back a ball. When I asked for her bone, even if it was near the ball, she brought back the bone. When she couldn’t find it and I said the word “kitchen,” she understood and went to the kitchen. Or the living room or the dining room or whatever room I said.
She may not have been an Einstein, but most of all, she understood the word “love” better than a great many of today’s humans.
