Dreyer’s to Build Biggest Ice Cream Plant in U.S.

Hot as it is here, what better place than Bakersfield for the nation’s largest ice cream production plant?
That is what Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream says the city will have once an expansion at the current plant is completed in about a year. The company invited state and local officials to a ceremony to break ground on the $100-million expansion.
The 400,000-square-foot expansion will more than double the size of the Bakersfield operation, making it the largest ice cream manufacturing plant in the United States, said Dori Bailey, a spokeswoman for Oakland-based Dreyer’s.
